Charlton & Jenrick are excited and delighted to announce that the new UK wide independent clearSkies certification scheme for wood burning stoves has now been launched to the trade this week.
Going further than Ecodesign Ready.
This new initiative, created from an original idea by the Stove Industry Alliance and industry partners, is a “one stop” certification mark to promote the best performing wood burning stoves on the market today. As you would expect, all Charlton & Jenrick wood burners are part of today’s official clearSkies launch listing and can be viewed under the C&J, Fireline and Purevision entries. The new scheme is independently owned and run by clearSkies Mark Ltd, administered by Kiwa Ltd and open to any UK appliance manufacturer to apply.
Consumers and trade professionals can now see at a glance whether a stove that is part of the scheme has both Ecodesign 2022 compliance and DEFRA exemption by the clearSkies level it holds.
Improving air quality:
A clearSkies appliance will help to improve air quality by dramatically reducing emissions. Independent tests show that a clearSkies appliance produces up to 90% less emissions than an open fire and up to 80% than a stove that is 10 or more years old.
clearSkies Levels:
As you can see from diagram above, the clearSkies start from level 2 to 5. All clearSkies Level 3 and above comply with both systems of emissions certification. Even better than this it is now possible to identify products that are cleaner burning and outperform the basic Ecodesign requirements. Level 4 clearSkies indicates that a composite of emissions and efficiency are at least 15% better than baseline and Level 5 is 15%+ better than level 4 – all have DEFRA exemption.
Charlton & Jenrick – Reaching the top levels of efficiency!
Most Charlton & Jenrick products achieve a clearSkies level 5 and the remainder are level 4 so you can be totally confident that our stoves are amongst the very best available wood burners on the market.
Chair of clearSkies, Morley Sage, commented: “We are delighted to be launching the clearSkies scheme to the fireplace and stove trade, the first step in a phased roll-out of the scheme. clearSkies has been over three years in development and is the first objective and independent emissions and energy performance certification scheme of its kind.”
“This ground-breaking initiative is clear evidence of the commitment of the stove and fireplace industry to ensure that its appliances are as clean and efficient as possible. This will mean lower emissions and improved air quality, whilst providing low carbon and heart-warming heating solutions that families can be proud of.”
